We will strongly support the growth and education of our Thai massage students with dedicated instruction, opportunities for practice, fair pricing and ethical business policies, all administrated with metta. We are here for the benefit of our students.
We are here, as one united team of teachers, to:
- Share knowledge of Thai Massage with all students who seek it from us in the volume of information, and level of understanding, that is appropriate for them. While sharing this information, we will continuously practice ^^metta, karuna, mutita and ubeka.
- Emphasize for our students the importance of presence, 'beginner's mind,' practice, humility, clean living and spiritual development by living those qualities.
- Uphold the lineage, and the knowledge that was passed down to us by our teachers. We place that lineage of knowledge above ourselves, taking none of the credit for what we teach. We are content with prosperity, successful students, and the continuation of this practice, never allowing ego or others to put us on a pedestal.
- Support the Thai Massage community as a whole, without judgment or prejudice.
- Give back to our communities by charging fairly for teaching services, donating a portion of our profits, and by sharing our time, knowledge and resources with a mindset of abundance and service.
- We will make all decisions with a spirit of metta and ahimsa (non-harming), using a democratic decision-making process.
- metta – This is the quality of loving-kindness, the unconditional wish for all beings to be well. It is a prerequisite for the teacher and the student both to have metta in order to meet and create a good relationship.
- karuna – This is the quality of a person who likes to give. In this case, the teacher enjoys the teaching, the process of giving knowledge and the tools of learning to the student.
- mutita – This is the quality of a person who is happy for others to succeed. A teacher with this quality is happy when a student starts having success in business, happy clients, and perhaps even happy students of their own.
- ubeka – This is the quality of a person who follows the 'middle way.' A person with ubeka is unmoved by the ups and downs, the vicissitudes of life, and meets all experiences with calm and detachment. The teacher of many former students who has this quality is not attached to results. Whether their former students fail or succeed, whether their students love them or hate them, the teacher can be content.
Our instructors, Steve Brown, Be Khambay and David Nix. These three instructors bring a wonderful blend of thorough instructing, anatomy, history, and cultural understanding of Thai massage. These instructors, when they aren't teaching, offer Thai massage to many of their clients in their private practice in Virginia and DC.
